This Ain't Bristol - Amsterdam Selections

One of the first blog posts on freshdrops was the original TAB Selections back in 2015. Now they’re back with another massive compilation of driving tech-house in preparation/commemoration of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) coming up at the end of October. 14 tracks from artists like This Ain’t Bristol regulars like Maximono and Nick Olivetti, along with some new faces. The sound throughout is signature TAB though - grimy, deep, dark and pounding tech-house.

My two standout picks from this compilation are definitely BYOR - Call Me Up, and MKJAY & Lowdown’s Afterhours.

The official release isn’t until October 12th, but check out the sampling of the entire compilation below.

Best of DeepWit Vol. 3 [DeepWit Recordings]

If you're looking for a sophisticated deep house compilation to add to your collection for the summer, look no further than Best Of DeepWit Vol. 3, the latest iteration of DeepWit Recordings' artist compilations. This one has a flavour for every style of deep house, whether you like things to be a bit more subtle and brooding, or if you like a little bit more punch (as I do). It's also super fresh, having just been released yesterday.

For me, the higher energy standouts on the compilation are Ivan Garci's No Lights (which if you like it, make sure to check his release in the Remixed By series from a little while back) and Enough (Nuff' Said Remix) by Tony S - those slightly muted high keys really get me. I also can't forget about the classic feel exhibited on Demarkus Lewis' remix of Miles Away, originally by Agent Libre, which is a new pseudonym for Montreal artist Reagan Grey.

On the more laid back side, I really enjoy the jazzy elements in E.M.M.E.'s The Needle On The Record, along with Angelo Mele's Good Morning Soul remixed by DeepWit label boss Alvaro Hylander.

As previously stated, if you're looking for a true deep house compilation for this summer, the Best Of DeepWit Vol. 3 is it.  Head over to Beatport to grab your copy, or save some money by buying directly from the label on Bandcamp.

Future Classic - Teen Idols (Compilation)

This is a 2014 compilation from Future Classic, a great label based in Sydney, Australia.  There is a wide variety of genres in this one, but it's all feel good music.  Everything from indie folk influenced stuff to different subgenres of electronic music - this EP hits the mark on all accounts.

My Top 5 recommendations on this one would definitely be:

Touch Sensitive - Teen Idols

HWLS - 004 W/ Noah Breakfast

KOA - All of My Love

Hayden James - Something About You

Woolfy - City Lights

With the EP available on iTunes at $9.99 for the full 16 track release, it's hard to make a case to pick and choose tracks over getting the whole release.  Take your pick and grab the tunes here. The whole release is available to stream in full below.

Kry Wolf - DNA [YUMDNA01] (Compilation)

This is a compilation that I've been waiting on release since I heard the first few tracks Food Music teased on their SoundCloud account. I've been a big fan of both Kry Wolf and Food Music for a while, and this compilation simply solidifies that fanboyism in me.

From Food Music, "DNA is a new series of various artist albums on Food Music, each presented by some of the worlds most exciting DJ and production talent."  If the initial release is any indication, we're in for some big compilations coming from this series in the future.

The tracks I'm most excited about from this release would have to be:

Vhyce - Be The Same (This track honestly makes the whole EP for me, see my earlier post on this track for more Vhyce)

Kry Wolf - U Like (Waifs and Strays Rework) - That piano and low bassline just does it.

Aaron Snapes - Open - Heavy driving house drums, and that melodic breakdown!

Nuage - Soulfiction - Drums with a bit of swing, paired with the vocal - magic.

This Ain't Bristol - More Selections [TAB002] (Compilation)

We wouldn't be able to call ourselves freshdrops if we didn't give you all something to download the day of release. We're following through on that today and posting about a great compilation coming from a group out of Germany - This Ain't Bristol. The best part about this compilation - it's great music ABSOLUTELY FREE, and was just released today - January 5th.

If This Ain't Bristol is a new name to you, you may also like to know that this is the second compilation that they have released for free. The first is also a massive release and is still available via their website here.

I could go on about the quality of names and sounds in general on this compilation, or try to pick out some of my favourite tracks, but honestly - it's all great. With artists such as South Soul Project, Hostage and Nick Olivetti featured, and with really creative sample use such as Dead or Alive's You Spin Me Round and Estelle's vocal from Kanye West's American Boy, there's something in here for everyone. Bonus for DJ's and audiophiles - you can choose your download format between mp3 or wav files.

If you like your house deep, techy and bassy, this release is for you. Take advantage and jump on that free download!
