Coldplay - Magic (MNEK Cover)

We're doing a bit of a throwback again today for Mellow Monday. MNEK uploaded this cover of Coldplay's Magic about a year ago, and it is magnificent. A really stripped back version, this is just MNEK's vocals and the accompanying piano. This version was recorded live for VEVO at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton last summer. Have a listen, and enjoy the live video at Youtube here.

Bill Withers - Use Me (Jackson Breit and Carneyval Remix)

The 70's has never sounded so fresh.  A collaboration between Jackson Breit and Carneyval, the two artists have redone Bill Withers' funky and soulful disco classic Use Me. It was dropped on Soundcloud a while back, but I just stumbled across it while doing the writeup and background for the remix of Kendrick Lamar that I posted earlier in the week.

This revision of the original maintains much of the original instrumentation and even some of Bill Withers' vocals through sampling, but the overall feel is very much modernized, along with the addition of Jackson Breit's own vocals and original lyrics.  Have a listen for yourself, and then hit the shopping cart in the player below to download your free copy of this awesome revision of a classic.

Childish Gambino - Sober (LeMarquis Cover)

Childish Gambino's Kauai EP opened with the track Sober, and LeMarquis has just put out a cover of this opener. Originally he wanted to do a remix, but couldn't find the acapella - so he ended up doing the vocals himself, and the result is really enjoyable.

The synth work in here is quite nice, a slight delay and pitch bend gives it a distinct laid back feel, and works really well with the bassline. This is a summer jam if I've ever heard one, everything about this cover screams warm sun and good vibes. No info on release or download information, but we hope this becomes available somewhere at some point soon!

Rihanna - BBHMM (FAB & Alo Lee Cover)

Pop fans rejoice, we're posting another version of a top 40 track today. Rihanna's Bitch Better Have My Money has been covered and remixed in a collaboration between French producer FAB and vocalist Alo Lee. Though the lyrical content remains very much in tact, Alo Lee puts her spin on them and makes the demands for payment with sweet and smooth delivery. The backing track sends this cover/remix in another direction from the original, with mellow sustained synths, a subtle but effective bassline and assorted broken beat percussion.

This version is an understated but very enjoyable take on Rihanna's hit, and FAB has uploaded it as a free download.  Grab this and while you're at it, check out the other quality remixes Fab has done - almost everything on FAB's Soundcloud is up as free downloads.

Eastside - Ellie (Ark Patrol Remix)

Eastside took on both Chris Brown's Loyal and Ed Sheeran's Don't, which resulted in a great vocal cover entitled Ellie. The remix posted below is Ark Patrol's remix of the cover, which is a great indie pop electronica version.

Mark Johns - In Paris (Prod. Sable)

It's not often you hear a drastically different cover of Kanye West and Jay-Z that really makes you stop and say "Wow, what IS this?".  This is one of those rare tracks that makes you sit up and pay attention.

An amazing cover by Mark Johns with production chops courtesy of Sable that is a drastic departure from the the original N***** In Paris by Kayne West and Jay-Z.  I hardly have words to describe this, other than amazing.  Have a listen for yourself, and pick it up for your collection, as this one is a completely free download! Hit the shopping cart in the player below to follow Mark Johns on Soundcloud to unlock the download.
