Deadmau5 - Strobe (Shemce Remix)

If you haven't heard of Deadmau5 by 2015, I'm not quite sure where you've been living, but it must have been dark there... Going back to the epic 10 minute closing track to his 2009 album For Lack of a Better Name, fellow Canadian producer Shemce takes on the Deadmau5 original, and brings it into contemporary deep house style with his remix.

It's not initially obvious when you start the Shemce remix that it is a take on Strobe, but anyone who has heard the original a couple times will definitely recognize the key sequence that comes in at the 1:28 mark. There are definitely nods to the original, and even when things drops back in at 2:00, there is definitely some obvious progressive house influence that remains even through the remix. To make things even better, this remix is up as a free download.

Also, in case you hadn't heard, Deadmau5 also just uploaded 3 new tracks over the past weekend, which you can check out on his page here.

Jaymes Young - I'll Be Good (Tom Bull Remix) [Atlantic Records]

Tom Bull's remix of Jaymes Young's I'll Be Good just dropped yesterday on Beatport, and it is a really great deep house take on the original's chilled acoustic folk style. The remix keeps a lot of the original lyrical quality while also giving it a distinct feel just by shifting where in each phrase the chorus starts. Where the original has a more laidback folk feel, the remix moves the lyrics forward with the percussion and bassline by bringing in the lyrics solidly on the first beat of the phrase, and the result is an overall tightening of the track fitting with the progression of a deep house track. Not to mention the bassline is very nicely implemented to have a really deep feel that is able to be both subtle and effective throughout.

This one just dropped on Atlantic Records, so make sure you head to Beatport and pick up your copy. If you can't get enough of Tom Bull's style in this one, another recommendation from a little while back is his remix of MNEK's The Rhythm (which is a free download).

Golf Clap - Country Club Disco Vol. 1 (Free EP Download)

The guys from Golf Clap have been working on their new label Country Club Disco for a little while now, and have put out a ton of content for free - which we have posted about before. Golf Clap have come back to release a full 5 tracks in their brand of house music through the label just a little over a day ago, and once again, this is a free EP. Check out the previews in the embedded player below, and decide for yourself if the download is worth it (hint: it is).

There is a nice amount of variation within the EP, with a full vocal house jam in Show You, to house tracks that simply make good use of a vocal sample or edit, such as Future and Only One. Pop It and To The Jaw have vibes that would be at home on a Dirtybird release. All in all, this a varied and enjoyable free house EP - make sure you check it out and grab it today.

ALOKA x Mulkern - Feel

ALOKA and Mulkern put this ultra chill collaboration out a couple months ago, and I was lucky enough to stumble across it the other day. The intro starts out with some really warm chords and ambient sounds, and slowly but surely builds into some energy through the introduction of a kick, and later some additional piano chords. By the time the vocal comes in, the track is riding high without there having been any real obvious drops - simply an easing up into the groove.

Feel has a lot of deep house and garage elements integrated, but keeps a much more chilled vibe throughout. The progression and transitions through the various sections of the track are extremely smooth and enjoyable, with each change simply melting into the next.

This is a true Mellow Monday track, and it's up for a free download.  Hit the shopping cart below to grab the mp3.

Spire - Girls

We posted the first track published by the new collective Soda Island last week (Xander Lewis' Honeydew in case you missed it), and they have come back with their second offering from a producer we've been watching for a little while - Spire. Girls is the most recently published track from the collective, keeping consistent to the high quality bar that was set with the first release.

Girls is an interestingly laid back but bouncy track with pitched vocals and interesting synth work. This one is hard to describe and classify, but it's pretty forward thinking stuff.  Make sure you check it out yourself and grab the free download. Also check out Spire's previous work on his Soundcloud page, as there is a lot of cool stuff there. You may also want to keep an eye on Soda Island, if these releases are any indication, there is much more good stuff to come.

Mar - She's A Dancer (Produced by Sebastian Carter)

Mar brought some new material to Soundcloud this past week with She's A Dancer, the backing track produced by Sebastian Carter. This is a fairly chilled out tropical deep house track for Mellow Monday.

Starting off with some simple evolving synth pads and also adding in some subtle percussion, Sebastian Carter lays the perfect backdrop to showcase Mar's always spectacular vocals. The buildup finally drops in at the 1:10 mark, with She's A Dancer moving into tropical deep house territory. Mar is still very much still present in the track, and the backing track calms back down for the second verse only to drop back in at 2:55.

Mar has also released this for free download through Toneden, so hit the shopping cart in the player below and grab your copy.

Xander Lewis - Honeydew

This is some summery new age electronic funk if I've ever heard it before. I don't think I have. Is this some funky glitch hop? Chilled funky trap? I'm not quite sure what to call it, but if you're looking for something to work you through your Tuesday, this is it. Xander Lewis has created something really different here, and just in time to get downloaded before you have any holiday road trips. Honeydew features some really interesting synth work and forward thinking sounds while still keeping a steady funky vibe throughout the entire piece. Supported and premiered by the new collective Soda Island.

This is up for free download as well, can't go wrong.

Flamingosis - About A Week Ago // Gas Pedal

A couple chill hip hop jams coming in for Mellow Monday this week, from an artist that we've featured multiple times before - Flamingosis.  Both of these tracks are remixes that have been reworked to have a completely different feel from the originals, and into that funky, jazzy and loungey hip-hop flavour that is Flamingosis' specialty.

About A Week Ago... is a remix of Bobby Shmurda's Hot N*gga, which is a pretty heavy gangster rap originally - but the rework turns the vibe into a much more laid-back jazzy hip-hop jam. The original lyrics still flow without much editing aside from the tempo.

The second track is a remix of Sage The Gemini's Gas Pedal.  Again, this puts a really fresh groove on the original - Flamingosis keeps the lyrical content, and simply weaves a whole new backdrop that they are presented against. Similarly, this rework brings in some grooving guitar licks and brings that signature funky hip-hop sound.

Both of these are up for free download, so pick them up and add them into your collection of summer jams.

Klaves - Come On

If you've been following freshdrops for any length of time at all, you'll already know we're big fans of the folks over at Eton Messy.  They have come back today with the newest release on their free downloads series, with a really funky house track from Polish producer Klaves.  Come On is really a house track that goes to show that sometimes, less is really more.  A funky bassline, really cool vocal loop, some added keys and of course the drums all come together to keep things moving the whole way through.

Tune in and enjoy, and grab the free download courtesy of Eton Messy. Make sure to check out the rest of their download series, as there are some real gems in there that have been released previously.

Tapes - Almost

This Monday we've got a throwback to the end of November that graced our Soundcloud feed. Tapes delivers a smooth chill trap vibe on this.  This should get your Monday off on the right foot. This one needs little further description, hit play below and enjoy.

Oh, and it's also a free download. Imagine that?  Part of an entire free 27 track compilation from Shoeboxx Recordings.

Micetro X Casual Magic - Love In Color

I'm a bit late in posting this one, as it's been up for a couple months now, but I just came across it and had to share.  Micetro and Casual Magic came together to make this bit of energetic chill trap (Is that a possible combination?  Listen and you'll see what I mean...) and released it as a free download.

Love In Color has really warm synth work, heavy trap style percussion, along with chopped vocals that seem to be delivered with a kind of laid back urgency.  This track seems to sit right on the fence between really energetic and chilled out and laid back.  Brought together, it's a thoroughly enjoyable piece of music to listen to the whole way through, and is available to grab for your music library for absolutely nothing aside from a Soundcloud follow.  Have a listen below, and pick it up for your collection.

Angelz - Useless ft. A.J. Crew

It's not often you come across a G-House track that samples classic Gorillaz that also features rap on top, but thats exactly what Useless from Angelz is.  Making use of the hook from Gorillaz' iconic track Clint Eastwood, Angelz builds a G House background around the sample, which holds on to some of the Gorillaz feel, but moves it into house genre territory.

If the rework of the Gorillaz wasn't enough for you, A.J. Crew is featured and lays down some serious lyrical content overtop of everything going on.

The result is Useless, check it out below and download for free.

Feki - Remember

So we could have waited until later in the week to post this... or maybe until next Monday, since it fits the Mellow Monday vibe so well, but we thought why not post it when it's still fresh?  This amazing chilled out track from Feki was uploaded just a few hours ago, and it's already racked up a couple thousand plays on Soundcloud.  It's no mystery as to why this is, as I've already listened to it multiple times since the first play through.

Remember starts out with a laid back key intro, and slowly introduces vocals and deep bass drums that make up the majority of the stripped back percussion.  At the 1:30 mark, Feki drops in some natural piano work which compliments the instrumentation up to this point spectacularly. Feki isn't content with just continuing down the same path with his music, and this is a perfect example of this approach.  Rather than keeping things the same for the second drop, he introduces an interesting bassline just short of the 3 minute mark, and that last drop brings in everything left in the track.

Get this in you to finish off your Monday.  It's fresh, it's quality. And it's up for free download.

M1LES - Bars Over Bullshit (from The Jounts)

I came across M1LES on Soundcloud at just the right time - one of those happy accidents. He has been uploading new material this week as part of a free download album called "The Jounts" before he drops an upcoming mixtape.  Bars Over Bullshit is already the 5th track uploaded, so head back on over to his Soundcloud page and grab the others from the album, all for free.

The subject material on the album may not be for everyone, but there's no denying M1LES has a way with words, a unique delivery and smooth flow. If you enjoy this, watch for his upcoming mixtape, dropping sometime in the next month.

Kryptogram - Bless It

You can't go wrong with a funky sax house track - a fact Kryptogram obviously knows well. He is provides generous servings of sax set atop deep house and nu disco elements giving Bless It a distinct feel from your standard deep or future house track.  There is obvious attention paid to both the ambient buildups and subtle percussive elements just as much as the bassline and drops in the production.  This, in addition to the combination of styles into one track, make this a standout piece of work.  Kryptogram also has this up as a free download, so take advantage by following and picking it up.  Also head over to his Soundcloud profile for more of his production.

Kelis - Caught Out There (Belarbi Remix)

Kelis recently received the future deep house remix treatment by Belarbi, and the result is an energetic rework fit for the dancefloor. Chopped pitched and looped vocals and the typical deep bassline give this some serious energy.  The remix takes the Kelis track in quite a different direction than the original, integrating it into the current nu deep house style, and Belarbi does that style very well.  This remix would fit in nicely to any number of house DJ sets right now, and lucky for all of you, it's up as a free download.  Grab this one and show Belarbi some Soundcloud love with a follow.  There's sure to be more dancefloor oriented material coming from him in the future, and he already has a pretty interesting variety in the back-catalogue of work on his Soundcloud page.

CYN - Something

If absolutely nothing else, CYN proves with this track that technology has made it really simple to get musical ideas recorded, and you can really get it done anywhere, anytime if you have the drive to do it.  In the description, CYN says she wrote this song while babysitting after putting the kids to sleep, and recorded on an iPhone headphone microphone. For something so simply recorded, this track is stunning. Something is all about the vocals, which are smooth and soothing, warm and beautiful.  A simple backing drum track and short piano run is all the background that is there, and really all that is required.  If this chill track is something you're into, CYN has put it up as a free download so you can grab it straight from the player below.

How was this recorded on an iPhone headphone mic?  What a time to be alive.

Jamie Prado - Extrasoular

This is a free download coming from EDM.com, a great track from Jamie Prado.  This is a pretty different take on indie dance and house that works out nicely. The gently filtered piano chords that come in an out for the intro, moving into a light delay sets the background for the rest of the track. There is very little in the way of actual percussive elements right up to the 2:00 mark, as there is really no need - the piano itself works well as both melodic and percussive elements to carry things up to that point.

Have a listen below, and grab the download straight from the embedded player if you're feeling it!

Soulless Sun - Hulk

We're sneaking in another late week addition into the blog. We love to support local artists whenever possible if they fit within what we are doing here at freshdrops, and with Soulless Sun being based right here in the same city of Regina, how could we not support this?

Soulless Sun has been grinding away hard at what he does, both with running his online radio show Ricochet Radio with Whit3N9nja on Friday nights, and on his production game. He released this track for free on his Soundcloud page after reaching his goal of 1000 likes. Big ups for reaching the goal and continuing on with the music he is passionate about.

The Hulk is a Melbourne Bounce track, for those of you who are into genre classification.  This one has all the hallmarks of the genre, so if you're a fan of bigroom, festival "EDM" or Electro, this is one for you.

Support your local producers, grab this track and share it where you can!

Owen Westlake - Trust Me

Owen Westlake brings a mature and classy vibe to the deep/tech/future house scene with the Trust Me. Simple and understated vocals settle nicely into the soundscape of the breakdowns, while there are serious deep and ever so slightly delayed bassline grooves when the vocal drops out and the dance floor vibes start flowing.

This one was released as a free download, so you can grab it just by clicking the arrow in the top right corner of the embedded player.  Make sure to check out Owen Westlake's Soundcloud for previous work, much of which is also free.
