Freedom Fry - Junkie (Penguin Prison Remix)

After all the heavy posts this week, I thought it would be good to include something a little softer and sweeter, but no less awesome.  Penguin Prison's remix of Junkie by Freedom Fry hits the spot nicely.

Penguin Prison takes the very indie rock sounding original and makes it very danceable by putting a bit of a nu disco twist in while still keeping a bit of the indie rock feel. The entirety of the vocals stay in the remix for those of you looking for something to sing along with, and this is a perfect song to sandwich into your summer road trip playlists or for your beach lounge sessions.

If this is the style you're looking for this weekend, add this and the rest of Freedom Fry's Remixes EP on Apple Music or Spotify.

Harrison - Music To... Make Summer Love

Toronto producer Harrison just dropped a summer mix for i-D over the weekend for their "Music To..." series. Harrison's is entitled "Music To... Make Summer Love", and is aptly named for the music that is in the mix.  Packed with groovy, funky, summery music, this has everything from dreamy reworks of pop jams to funky nu disco and house tracks to hip hop and rap.  No download or tracklisting on this, so you'll have to use your ears, memory, or maybe Shazam to ID your personal gems from the mix. I know there are some Harrison originals along with some tracks from Jafunk, Geotherory and a Royce remix, but I won't ruin your track searching adventures.

Stream and enjoy the full mix below.

Mogul - Get Freaky ft. Sugar [NDYD Records]

We're back with more Nu Disco today, this time from Berlin's Mogul. Get Freaky is part of Mogul's release Free Limitation on NDYD Records, and is arguably the most pop-flavoured track on the release with a feel good vibe and lyrics provided by Sugar. The lyrical content is about just what you'd expect with a title like Get Freaky, backed up by bright and bouncy synth lines. Get Freaky is definitely a track made for the summer.

The whole EP is available to stream from NDYD Records' Soundcloud Page, and is chock full of feel good summer Nu Disco vibes, so you'll want to check it out. Another standout on the EP if you're looking for something with a little less lyrical content is Some Days. Grab the release from the Bandcamp page here.

Tep No - Karma, You Got Owned

Tep No dropped this juicy free download a little while back, but we just came across it. Karma, You Got Owned emanates summer vibes, and honestly any 2015 summer playlist that is lacking this track is simply incomplete. The combination of really loungey, chilled back and house-y percussion and the classical guitar licks create a perfect backdrop to feature the smooth vocal stylings that are introduced later in the track.  If there was a recipe to be written for an infectious summer jam, Tep No wrote it with this one.

Head to Tep No's Soundcloud page for the free download, and check out some of their other material while you're there, as a lot of it is up for free downloads as well.

Le Youth - TOUCH (JackLNDN Remix)

If this tune sounds a little bit familiar, you're right - we posted about the original by Le Youth back in January. JackLNDN has put his laid back house spin on the original with a remix as a free download that was premiered by Nest HQ. While Le Youth's original was a house heater perfect for warming up dancefloors in the late winter months, JackLNDN's remix has come at just the right time - his chilled vibes fit nicely with the summer sunshine. With Nu Disco influenced basslines along with his signature house style, this is the perfect track for sunny afternoon lounging or getting things started on a lounge patio as the sun sets.

This remix, as with much of JackLNDN's material, is available as a free download. Grab it for your summer sets, playlists or road trip jams while it's fresh.

Penthouse Penthouse - Conspicuous

The guys of Penthouse Penthouse out of LA have recently redone Usher's 2004 hit Yeah! Their rework entitled conspicuous has an interesting mix of Future R&B, Nu Disco and Chill Trap elements, used all alongside the majority of the easily recognizable original lyrics from the chart topper.

The guys recently picked up a Juno 106 (which will make any gearhead producer or synth fan jealous for sure) and put it to use with all of the synths in this remix having been created with the 106. These sounds give the track an interesting vintage vibe meshed with nu school sound and production and those nostalgic mid 2000 club-pop feels.

This is a really cool piece of work, and Penthouse Penthouse have uploaded it as a free download - so if you're feeling it, just hit the download button in the top right corner of the embedded player.

Childish Gambino - Sober (LeMarquis Cover)

Childish Gambino's Kauai EP opened with the track Sober, and LeMarquis has just put out a cover of this opener. Originally he wanted to do a remix, but couldn't find the acapella - so he ended up doing the vocals himself, and the result is really enjoyable.

The synth work in here is quite nice, a slight delay and pitch bend gives it a distinct laid back feel, and works really well with the bassline. This is a summer jam if I've ever heard one, everything about this cover screams warm sun and good vibes. No info on release or download information, but we hope this becomes available somewhere at some point soon!

Kryptogram - Bless It

You can't go wrong with a funky sax house track - a fact Kryptogram obviously knows well. He is provides generous servings of sax set atop deep house and nu disco elements giving Bless It a distinct feel from your standard deep or future house track.  There is obvious attention paid to both the ambient buildups and subtle percussive elements just as much as the bassline and drops in the production.  This, in addition to the combination of styles into one track, make this a standout piece of work.  Kryptogram also has this up as a free download, so take advantage by following and picking it up.  Also head over to his Soundcloud profile for more of his production.

Full Crate x Mar - Her Window

Kind of a strange ode to the exhibitionist from the friendly neighbourhood observer, but Her Window ends up being a really catchy song from Full Crate and Mar out of the Netherlands. Kind of a deep house nu disco vibe on this one, with warm synth chords and a great, slightly muted bassline. Mar's vocals are on point and both soulful and sensual as usual.

If you haven't heard of Full Crate or Mar and their previous collaborations, take a quick history lesson with Nobody Else and Man x Woman.

Her Window isn't out quite yet, so get your fix with the Soundcloud stream until the release on April 1st.

Friday Care Package Double Drop (Valentines Special) - February 13th

This Friday Care Package we did it a little different.  Given Valentines Day falls on Saturday, we thought we'd customize the Care Package with this in mind. In an effort to include everyone, we made two 14-track playlists of spectacular new music that centre around both Valentines and counter-Valentines themes. There's great music in both, and likely half of the tracks are free downloads if you dig into the playlists - so we'd encourage checking out both ;) We hope you enjoy, and have a great Valentines Day weekend, however you choose to spend it!

The Valentines theme playlist starts off higher energy, and moves into slower, sexy bedroom beats by the end.

The Anti-Valentines theme playlist goes in house, gets into some trap and hip hop, then back out house.

Sam Padrul - Shine (feat. Chuck New)

Sam Padrul  brings a huge Chromeo vibe on this funky Nu Disco track.  There is very little that I can really say about Shine, other than it is an extremely catchy nu disco/funk tune.  If this sound is up your alley, there is much more available from the Chicago based artist on his Soundcloud page, both originals and remixes.

If you want to pick up Shine, you can buy it on its own, or as part of Epic Network Music's compilation Youngsters - ENM Happy, Vol. 1, available on iTunes.
