Tabrill - Letters ft. Youth Allowance

We've got something a little different for you all today, a genre defying collaboration between two Brisbane based acts - future beats/trap/chill/electronic/general cool sounds producer Tabrill, and indie rock group Youth Allowance.

The idea came about as many strange yet great collaboration ideas come from - in an alcohol-influenced conversation at a party. Will from Youth Allowance approached Tabrill about doing a track together, and the two parties came together to create the hybrid, genre-defying (or maybe genre defining? yes?) Letters. A really nice mix of indie instrumentation and lyricism brought together with Tabrill's electronic production experience, and the outcome is better than anyone could have hoped.

Have a listen to the track below, and if you're feeling it, pick it up on iTunes or stream with your Spotify account. Make sure to follow both Tabrill and Youth Allowance on Soundcloud to keep up with their new material.  We are.

Flamingosis - Kahunastyle [Keats Collective]

We posted one of the tracks from this album, Midnight in Montreal (embedded below) in our Friday Care Package on February 6th. The whole Flamingosis album has now been released and is available free from Keats Collective at their Bandcamp page here. Kahunastyle (a reference to a childhood nickname) brings together hip hop, funk, disco and electronic styles into one body of work, and the end result is great. Flamingosis brings in several collaborators in on this, including Yung Bae on Groovin', A Sol Mechanic on Future Lounge, and Go Yama on Cup of Ramen.

The whole album is full of great tracks, all in easily digestible tracks around 3 minutes long. The short length of the tracks need not suggest that there is a lack of substance here, as that is far from the case.

If you're a fan of hip hop, funk, or just enjoyable music in general, make sure to grab this album now right here.

Friday Care Package Double Drop (Valentines Special) - February 13th

This Friday Care Package we did it a little different.  Given Valentines Day falls on Saturday, we thought we'd customize the Care Package with this in mind. In an effort to include everyone, we made two 14-track playlists of spectacular new music that centre around both Valentines and counter-Valentines themes. There's great music in both, and likely half of the tracks are free downloads if you dig into the playlists - so we'd encourage checking out both ;) We hope you enjoy, and have a great Valentines Day weekend, however you choose to spend it!

The Valentines theme playlist starts off higher energy, and moves into slower, sexy bedroom beats by the end.

The Anti-Valentines theme playlist goes in house, gets into some trap and hip hop, then back out house.

Cavalier - Flirt (Ft. DrewsThatDude)

This is a super fresh rework of the classic R Kelly song I'm A Flirt, and a perfect fit for a Mellow Monday post.  Cavalier and DrewsThatDude have taken the vocal from the original R Kelly track, pitched it and worked it in with some great instrumental work.  The piano work in this one really does it for me, but the whole piece overall is a really nice reworking of the track into a new style.

This chill R&B Trap hybrid has really been growing on me for a while, and fresh tracks like this make me thankful I've been following artists like Cavalier.  Make sure you check out his Soundcloud, and pick this track up direct from Cavalier's Bandcamp page for a cool single USD.

Montgomery - Pinata (Japanese Wallpaper Remix)

This indie pop track by Montgomery gets an interesting but still very laid back remix treatment from Japanese Wallpaper. Make sure you check out his Soundcloud page for much more like this. The work on his page is quite impressive, especially when you take into account that this is a 17 year old from Melbourne. I'm looking forward to keeping an eye on his productions coming in the future!

Also, in case you hadn't picked up on this yet, this one is a free download - a simple click on the little down arrow with the line under it in the top corner of the embeded Soundcloud page should be all it takes to add it to your collection! :)

Real Slow - Things That Remind Me of You EP

Real Slow recently came out with a great EP, up for free download through alayaP..ro Unlimited 's..  My standout picks for this release are definitely Drake Songs, and 1990.  The whole 7 track EP is available for free, and was released December 18th.

1990 has a really warm laid back vibe before dropping into a trap-esque beat that drives the track the rest of the way through.

Drake Songs is a mellow slow burner, but just as catchy.  The track works off of a backing synth and bells that add both melodic and percussive interest, which really works overtop of the beat.

Keep an eye on this Australian producer, if this EP is any indication, there are sure to be more quality tunes coming from down under.  Make sure to head to their soundcloud pages and follow and cop this free release!
